New

Hide your name next to your logo

If your logo already has your name in it, untick "Show my name next to the logo" in Branding and press Save branding. Your name then no longer appears as text beside or under your logo on the big screen and the players' phones. If you have no logo, your name still shows. The website card has its own Show the name switch, under Website & camera, How it looks.

Better

Pass the Bomb never gets stuck

If somebody holds the bomb for 5 seconds without throwing it, it jumps to another player by itself. A phone left on the table or a player who has wandered off can no longer freeze the round.

Fixed

Games night: the bar says when a game counts

On a games night, the host bar wrongly said "Picked by hand - just for fun" on whole-room games that were counting. It now only says so when you really did pick some of the players. And on a paired-up game like Doodle Duel, ticking everyone in Pick players now pairs everyone up and counts, instead of one big match for fun.

Better

Players see the answer after every mini-game

After a mini-game, every player's phone now shows the answer as well as the big screen: where the ball really was in Spot the Ball, with their own guess marked, the right answer and what they said in Closest Wins, when Hold Your Nerve busted, and what the house threw in Rock Paper Scissors. Players at home no longer miss it.

Fixed

Games night scores when you pick everyone

On a games night, choosing the players with Pick players and ticking the whole room used to count as picked by hand, so the game was played just for fun and tonight's table stayed at zero. Ticking everyone now counts as the whole room, and the game goes on the table. Picking only some of the players is still played for fun.

Fixed

Doodle Duel words never repeat in a night

Playing a Doodle Duel match again used to give the players the same words as last time. Now every drawer gets a different word, a rematch or a new match never repeats a word already drawn that night, and there are over 500 words to draw. A guess that is a different word, like "horse" for "house", no longer counts as a typo.

Better

A smaller host camera on players' phones

When you are live on camera, players at home now see you in a compact bar at the top of their phone, with Mute host and Hide beside the picture, instead of a picture the full width of the screen. In Doodle Duel the bar scrolls away with the page, so it can never cover the drawing, and the drawing pad makes room for it.

New

Refer a venue, get 50% of their first month

Your account now has its own referral link, under Account & billing. Share it with another pub, club, school or business: when a venue that signs up through it starts a paid plan, we pay you half of their first month's payment, by bank transfer. You can see how many venues signed up, how many pay and what you have earned.

Better

Names on the big screen, a better size

The winner's name after a mini-game was taking over the big screen. It is now about half the size, still the headline, and a long team name wraps instead of running off. The results list, the Bingo winners and who is drawing in Doodle Duel are a size smaller too.

Fixed

Games night fixes

Doodle Duel no longer ends the moment someone starts drawing. On online buzzer rounds, phones now ask for the microphone as players join, so the first buzz can answer out loud straight away, and the host gets a Tap to hear them button if the browser holds the sound back. Games nights open with the chat on. 75-ball Bingo cards read low to high down every column, the big-screen board has clear B-I-N-G-O rows, and called numbers stay readable in any theme colour. Spot the Ball fills an upright phone. And hosting from a phone: the games are one tap away in a panel, and the bottom bar's big button becomes GO once a game is lined up.

Our privacy policy now covers our own adverts

We advertise JoltQuiz on Facebook and Instagram. When a venue signs up or buys a plan, our server tells Meta it happened (your email scrambled, never in the clear), so we know which adverts work. Nothing changes in your browser - still no tracking cookies - and your players are never part of it. Details in section 6 of the privacy policy.

Better

A new home page at joltquiz.com

The home page now shows everything JoltQuiz runs: quiz nights, games nights and Bingo, all eighteen mini-games, Doodle Duel, booking nights on your own website and Auto host. Handy to send to anyone asking what a JoltQuiz night is like.

New

Step-by-step help guides

A new Help section at joltquiz.com/help: how to run your first quiz, a games night and Bingo, book a night on your website, play mini-games, let a quiz run itself with Auto host, and book nights with the API. There is a Help button at the top of your account too.

New

Book a Bingo & games night

Host on your site has a new option: a Bingo & games night - Bingo and the mini-games together, no quiz. Your website card and the big screen call it a Bingo & games night, and on the night you get the games board with Bingo first. Comes with Quiz Master, like Bingo.

Better

Go to the room, straight from your booked night

When a booked night opens its doors, it now has a Go to the room button in Host on your site and on Home, and Open now takes you straight in. No more hunting through Recent sessions for it.

Beta

Doodle Duel: draw it, guess it

A drawing game for online quizzes and games nights. Players are paired up (a three when the numbers are odd) and take turns: the drawer gets a secret word on their phone and has 30 seconds to draw it with a finger (or the mouse on a computer), while the others type guesses. The quicker the guess, the more it is worth, and the drawer scores too. The drawing appears live on the big screen, along with the guesses. Online only, because in one room you could just look at the drawer's phone.

Better

A new look for the big screen and the phones

Every answer now has its own colour and letter, the same on the big screen and on every phone, so "the purple one" means the same thing to the whole room. Bigger, bolder questions, a lit-up answer on the reveal, gold, silver and bronze on the leaderboard and the podium, and proper falling confetti at the end in place of the old dotted background. Your own theme's colours still apply.

New

Closest Wins, Rock Paper Scissors and Spot the Ball

Three more mini-games. Closest Wins: a question with a number for an answer - closest guess wins. Rock Paper Scissors: five throws against the house. Spot the Ball: the ball is missing, the players are looking at it - tap where it is. The answers stay hidden until the end, then the big screen shows them.

New

Four new mini-games

Higher or Lower, Word Scramble, Emoji Decode and Memory Match. Everyone gets the same cards, words and emojis, so the quickest player wins. Play them in a quiz or on a games night, as the whole room or paired up.

Better

Mini-games between rounds, and quizzes you can search

When you build a quiz, each gap between rounds now has its own Mini-game picker, with every game in it. The quiz library has topics and a search box, with the pub quizzes first.

Better

A Home page when you sign in

Signing in now opens Home: the three things you come here to do - run a quiz, run a games night, put a night on your website - what is left to set up (it ticks itself off as you go), what is coming up on your site, and what is new.

New

The games board

A games night now has its own board in the host panel: Bingo and every mini-game as big tiles. Tap one and it starts; when it is over, Back to the games brings you straight back. No siren between games - the big screen just says what is next.

New

Tonight's table on a games night

Games nights keep score: 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd in each game, and 3 for each Bingo prize. A game counts when everyone plays it, so nobody gets extra chances. The leaderboard, the final podium and your 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes all use it. Quiz nights are scored on their questions, as always.

Better

Mini-games in four presses

Pick a game and it starts. The rules come up and everyone is lined up by themselves, so you press GO, then Back to the quiz when it is over. Change who plays is still there if you want to pick the players yourself.

New

Head to heads pair everyone up

A head-to-head game - Tug of War, say - now pairs the whole room up and plays the matches one after another; with an odd number the last match is a three. Everybody plays once. Press Next match between them.

New

Quiz nights that run themselves

Under Host on your site, tick Run it on Auto host when you book a quiz night. At the start time the room starts by itself, Auto host plays the quiz through and ends it. You can still step in at any moment from the host panel.

New

Close joining by itself

Choose when joining closes on its own: when the quiz starts, a number of minutes after it starts, or after a number of questions. Set it when you book a night, or in Options for the next room. You can always unlock joins by hand.

Fixed

Auto host runs mini-games for you

Auto host used to stop at a mini-game and wait. Now it runs mini-games itself - the rules, everyone in (or everyone paired up), GO, the result, every match - and carries on with the quiz. Buzzers needs somebody to ask the questions, so it is not available while Auto host is on.

New

Host on your site: games nights and Bingo nights

The new Host on your site tab puts a quiz night, a games night (mini-games and Bingo, no quiz) or a Bingo night on your website card. A Bingo night opens ready for Bingo: press Start and the Bingo box comes up. Bingo comes with Quiz Master.

New

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd

Name a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd under Host on your site - all three, one, or none. They show on your website card, on the big screen while people join, and next to the winners at the end.

New

"Free to play" on your website card

Tick "Free to play" under Host on your site and your website card and big screen say so.

Buzzer rounds online, with push-to-talk

Running a quiz online? Pick Buzzers, then Online: push-to-talk. Whoever buzzes first answers on their own phone's mic for 10 seconds and everybody hears them; you press Right, or Wrong to pass the mic to the next buzz. It uses your camera keys, and it is not available while Auto host is on.

New

Auto host

Tick Auto host in the host panel and the room runs itself: it starts each clock, shows the answers, moves on and ends the night. Press anything to step in. Mini-games are still yours to run.

Better

A real Bingo caller

Bingo numbers are called out loud on the big screen by a recorded caller, male or female, or switch the voice off.

Beta

Bingo for up to 1,000 players: every phone gets its own ticket that marks itself, the balls are on the big screen, and the winners are spotted for you. Open a games night, or press Bingo during a quiz. Quiz Master.
